Residents of Nsukka Town, Nsukka local government area of Enugu state are bewailing and engulf in serious pains as flood sleeps their houses and properties.
Residents in this area blame road construction and channelization for the flood. Some attribute the cause of the flood to people’s poor conduct in handling the roads, which includes blocking of drainage system and water ways with garbage.
A resident in Nsukka had this to say about the flood: “Our local council should do something to inform our people against this. Even as individuals, we owe our town a duty of carrying out individual campaign.”
Caroline Eke, also a resident in Nsukka aired her feelings. She said her family moved from where they were staying because of the flood. She added: “Initially, when the road was being constructed, we made it known that channelling of the flood was not properly done but nobody gave a listening ear. But today, flood has sacked all of us here.”
Another resident, Fidelis Eze, who lives at New Anglican Road, told Daily Sun they slept inside water for two days.
